The promising youngster has made the decision to feature for the Oranje at international level, and is still in the running to make it into the national team's squad for Euro 2012
The 18-year-old is eligible for both countries, and had yet to make a decision about his international future. However, Maher has now decided to feature for the 2010 World Cup finalists as he targets a spot in the Orajne's Euro 2012 squad after being included in the preliminary group.
"If the coach needs me at Euro 2012, I will be ready. It's good for my personal development to play World Cups and European championships. I'm making a lot of progress when I'm surrounded by these players," Maher stated to De Telegraaf.
"I will also choose for Oranje if I don't make the squad for Euro 2012. The only difference is that I don't have to make it official yet in that case. I've discussed this with my family, and I think this is the best solution for me."
Maher follows in the footsteps of players such as Ibrahim Afellay and Khalid Boulahrouz, who also chose the Netherlands over Morocco.
On the other hand, Zakaria Labyad, Oussama Assaidi and Ismail Aissati opted for the African country in recent years.
