One of the extra measures that is being taken by employers is the use of psychometric testing results to identify a person's suitability to a chosen career or job role and involves a number of assessments and consultations. Just like how a CV, cover letter and recommendations is a necessity when applying for a job, a psychometric test is expected to be added to that list in the future with its ability to determine if a candidate is the right fit for a particular job role.
Psychometric testing is the study of the many factors that make up an individual's character. The factors that psychometric testing covers include a person's behavioural tendencies in certain situations and their aptitude to carry our particular tasks. It is this sort of insight about potential candidates why psychometric tests have become so popular within the recruitment process. Psychometric testing cannot be passed or failed. The objective of all psychometric assessments are to build an accurate profile of who an individual really is, what they are motivated by, their strengths and weaknesses, values and beliefs and ultimately what motivates them to get up in the morning.
Psychometric testing is beneficial to not only employers but also to job seekers as well. By examining a job seekers strengths, weaknesses and ambitions, psychometric testing can closely match a person with a career they are most suited to and ultimately going to be happier in. Psychometric assessments can also include consultations with an occupational psychologist where discussions take place about job seekers career goals and ambitions which are also useful in finding the perfect job.
The usefulness of psychometric test results to employers should be a big enough reason for job seekers to invest time and effort in carrying out an assessment. If a job seeker is able to show the correct mind set and aptitude to complete certain tasks that match up to the job specifications of a certain job role they will stand in good stead during the application process.
However psychometric testing does take time and effort on the job seekers behalf. With the range of human emotions and characteristics examined, completion of all questionnaires and assessments can take around 5 to 6 hours. After these questionnaires and assessments psychometric testing can continue with one-on-one consultations with occupational psychologists where in detail personal circumstances, desires and ambitions are discussed.
